In this process two things happen in real time:  + A renewal sticker is produced  + The Illinois Secretary of State's registration database is updated. Starting & Completing a Renewal A renewal needs to be performed if a customer would like to transfer license plates that are expiring within three months. This is an Illinois Secretary of State requirement when processing transactions electronically. *Once a renewal is completed, it cannot be backed out, or undone* A dealership may also partake in performing stand-alone renewals. A stand-alone renewal is a renewal done not in conjunction with a Title & Registration. If your dealership wishes to perform stand-alone renewals, you must contact your account representative to become offically categorized as a stand-alone renewing dealership.
