Title Transaction Explanations:

It is important to understand the purposes of the "Title Only" transaction types in the Illinois EVR program. Choosing the wrong transaction type for your intended purpose may result in assessments and/or audits. Please familiarize yourself with the chart below:

Transaction Name Tax Form Description
Title Only » YES » Used for the sale or change of ownership of a vehicle between one party and another. This transaction is just like a "Title & Registration" transaction only it omits the application of transferring plates or issuing new plates. This transaction type may be indicated as tax exempt. Even if the transaction is exempt from tax due, a tax return is generated whether it prints from the Illinois EVR program or not. Keep a copy of the tax return generated for your records in the case of an inquiry by CVR or the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Duplicate Title » NO » Used for obtaining an exact copy of a lost title.
Corrected Title » NO » Used for making corrections to a title you possess and can surrender. Do not use this transaction to correct an error you can confirm was made by the Illinois SOS in conjunction with paperwork that was processed outside of the CVR system.
Duplicate/Corrected Title » NO » Used for making corrections to a title that is also lost. Do not use this transaction to correct an error you can confirm was made by the Illinois SOS in conjunction with paperwork that was processed outside of the CVR system.
Full/Conversion Title » NO » Used for:
  1. Submitting an Illinois Title for more re-assignment space (Full Title).
  2. Submitting an out-of-state of title to convert it for whatever reason to an Illinois Title (OOS Conversion).
